Design in Difference offers a broad range of creative services. Our schtick?

 No snobby designers
 No ulterior motives
 Just design that works.

We are real people that know what good design can do for real people in the real world--indifferent to the things that do not matter.

Web Design
Work on the world wide web

Compliance Advisers

Compliance Advisers siteA complicated site with over 30 different pages. Site includes drop-down menus, RSS feeds, and Google search.

The design of this site is focused on establishing trustworthiness and believability. There is a fine line between the gold-standardized and 'spam' standards. The client recently notified me that the website just brought in a $12,000 client.

Mile 21 (Version 1.0)

First Version MiLE21 siteThis site is constructed completely with actionscripting. It is a musician's website that allows for music uploads and a login for the members of the band.

Again, it is done entirely with Flash with bug-free menus, scrolling text, mp3 player, and side menu.

Mile 21 (Version 2.0)

Current MiLE21 siteMiLE21 went through a leadership change and asked us to re-vamp their site. Now, less Actionscripting is involved (just a small animation at the top) and information is easier to add in a blog style.

There is an easier log-in location and a more intuitive layout.

Vincent Lopez Memorial

VBLMF siteThe Vincent Bernard Lopez Memorial Foundation was formed in memory of Vincent, cancer victim at the age of 22. The group needed a site where they could take information and accept donations. The final product features a php form mailer that runs through the server and simple contacts.

Design was coordinated with the 4 founders and numerous changes have been made to suit their preferences.

Graphic Design
Graphic handiwork; both digital and physical

Hiker's Shelter
Panel 1 Panel 2 Panel 3 Panel 4 Panel 5

Medium: Charcoal Relief on Mylar

This small shelter was designed for hikers along Chautauqua trail in Boulder, CO. Our presentation was developed to mimic the procedural approach and use of the shelter. The five panels serve to show this process and simultaneously allow the presentation of different drawings.

Acappellooza Logo
Vector Logo Design

Media: Computer (Illustrator; CS3)

A Charity event featuring collegiate a cappella groups in Colorado is held yearly. As the even producer, we designed this logo as part of the advertising package. Shirts were printed with it, fliers stamped with it, and the event was thus branded. Thank you, Denver Nuggets...

MiLE21 Logo
Vector Logo Design

Media:Ink & Computer (Photoshop)

More work for MiLE21...this time a logo. We started with a hand drawing and just cleaned it up on the computer. Not much to it really. Notice, however, that the lines would be tedious at best if done completely with a computer. We find intrinsic value in hand drawings.

"The Robot" Logo
AutoCAD

Media:Computer (AutoCAD)

A personal favorite--this was an old logo that we used after some experimenting with AutoCAD's 3D redering capabilities. This was ALL done in AutoCAD and it includes rounded edges, reflections, self-emitting faces, and spheroid shapes.

Paris Street Lamp
Photo Retouching

Media:Digital Film & Photoshop

All I'm going to say...there were 2 people in this photo when it was taken.

Squared
Media Textures

Media:Graphite, Charcoal on mylar.

A simple study on texture weights with different techniques and different media

Environmental Analysis
Vignette 1 Vignette 4 Vignette 3 Vignette 2

Media:Pencil on paper

A qualitative and quantitative study of a small area of Boulder, CO's park system. The intent was to identify certain aspects of the terrain and record them analytically for presentation.

Often, the work of a drawing can dramatically outweigh the effect of a 1000 words.

Architectural
Commercial, Residential, and more...

Quiznos Prototype
Quiznos 2009 Prototype Video Walkthrough 3D Rendering

From colors to materials to vendors to contractors, we did nearly everything. Furthermore, with our technological capabilities, we were able to do it all without building a test store. Everything was designed on the computer and put into action immediately.

Quiznos DIA Install
Quiznos DIA Color Board DIA Renderings

3D Rendering

This space was designed, rendered, and presented for a new Quiznos Sub Restaurant in Denver International Airport. The design needed to match their prototype and DIA's strict standards.

Pearl Street Dance Theatre
Pearl Street Dance Theatre Digital 'Blueprints'

This project was created to fit in a dilapidated alley-way off of Boulder, CO's pedestrian mall. The Dance Studio offers the users a continually expanding environment where the building mimics the body movements of dancing.

What is thus achieved is the acclamated mental state of mind of its users--one of the most important elements of performance.

Light Rail Station
Keyhole Community Center & Light Rail Station Hybrid 'Blueprints' and Renderings

As Denver grows, it is constantly integrating the urban with the suburban. In other words, the infrastructure must coexist with the inhabitants.

This building was designed to accomplish just this with its fusing forms and overlayed gridworks.

Basement Remodel
Basement Refinish 7637 So. Cedar Cir. CO

This is a shot of the refinishing of the basement of a Colorado residence. All design, purchasing, and construction work was done by DiD, bringing color, comfort, plumbing, and electricity to a space that was previously unusable.

Building Analysis
Library Axes Library Textures Kimbell Museum Weights Kimbell Museum Textures
Boulder, CO

This was a study done for Boulder County's newest library. It was compared to the famous Kimbell Museum with axial, textural, and weight studies.

City Analysis
Vichy France study Vichy, France

This is a study of the city plan of Vichy, France, highlighting solids and major axes and displaying them in a simple, high-contrast format.

Furniture/Industrial
Products developed and produced conceptually or physically

overSeat
Bendable Poplar and Lyptus

This chair is made of sustainable materials and serves a dual purpose. The ergonomical seat is perfect for the office...Flip the chair over to reveal the profile of a distinctly different chaise-longue.

Constructed by bending and laminating thin poplar, the seat was then cut to fit the legs for a strong yet simple joint.

A distinct effort was made to accent the joints and construction rather than hide it. Thus, the edges of the laminated poplar are revealed; the legs pass right through the seat to show the contrasts between the woods.

Guitar
Zebra, Rose, and Spruce

This piece is created entirely by hand. From the headstock to the rounded body, the wood was painstakingly formed and carved to be a real work of art.

Special considerations were taken to pick the most beautiful faces of the woods. The natural beauty is matched only by the rich, full sound and finely-tuned harmonics.

As a guitarist it is truly one of my favorite pieces and would never sell it (though I received an offer from somebody who rear-ended my car in a parking lot!).

Kiri Lamp
Acrylic Sheet and Reclaimed Industrial Parts

Kirigami--origami's evil twin (more cutting)--was the brain-child for this salvage-style lamp.

The acrylic sheet is cut and bent to wrap around the light bulb. The two-way bolt can then be turned to further open or close the lamp.

The remaining parts were recovered from salvage yards and refurbished or left as-is to complete the lamp (and wire it to a plug).
